A knitted dress

I have the perfect photograph to illustrate this week's Sepia Saturday theme; a postcard of market day in my home town of Goole. Sadly, I've already posted it.

So, on to something completely different for my entry this week. I don't know anything about this sweet little girl apart from the photographer's impressed details and a hand-written date on the reverse (Age 2, May 1922) but as a knitter, I'm very taken with her dress.

More of today's photographs are to be found at Sepia Saturday.

That type of chair/stool seems to be used a lot in photographic shots.
Thanks for including the link to Goole market - old shots like that are gems.

I viewed the market photo since I didn't see it when posted. What a crowd! You can really tell that market day is a social event. I tried to figure out what that stall on the right is selling. Furs?
Cute photo of the little girl.

Nothing cuter than a pudgy-cheeked little girl.

Don't you just hate it when that happens!

Such a sweet faced little girl and her dress was probably hand-made by her mother or grandmother don't you think?

A beautiful child. As a woodworker, my attention goes to the chair, which I've not seen used before in photos. It's a reproduction of an ancient style, Egyptian/Greek. Makes the pose more classical than other common studio chairs.

What a sweetie! I admire both the dress and the chair, but most of all I'd love to know what she is holding. The market scene is very interesting, and there's nothing wrong with posting it a second time - we've all done that too!

I like that postcard of Goole market day very much. I think I might well have bought a rabbit off James Hopley or one of his sons. All those flat caps and high-browed hats ...

As far as the portrait of the little two year-old from Huddersfield, I was looking at a very similar one to post next week, and then decided on a different tack altogether. The rose in her hand doesn't look very real, does it?

What an adorable child with beautiful eyes! I enlarged the photo to try and see what she's holding. Is it a rose or some type of toy?
