Smile

I have a tiny family photograph for this week's Sepia Saturday - the image is only 38mm (1½ in) wide.
This is my Auntie Laura (1916-1974), Mum's younger sister, taken during the 1930's when she worked at the Meadow Dairies shop in Boothferry Road, Goole. Mum always used to joke that Laura got the looks and she got the brains! Laura was Roger's mother and I spent many happy childhood days at their house. The things I remember most about Laura are her fabulous baking and her lovely smile.

You can find more of this week's entries over at Sepia Saturday.

She does have a great smile - and Shirley Temple dimples!

A pretty young lady indeed. The sign above her head seems to end in the phrase; "The answer - a lemon".

Isn't it amazing the wonderful enlargements you can get from those tiny photographs. She does look pretty and happy too.

Your Aunt was a pretty young lady with a lovely smile. To be such a very small picture, when it's enlarged you see many details, down to the type of shoes she was wearing.

Obviously I don't know about her brains but she sure looks lovely! She has this welcoming please-come-into-my-shop look that I miss sometimes today in the large stores. (Does this make me a sour old man?)

A captivating smile.

I have many of these little photos in my family collection as well. The marvelous thing about them is scanning them which allows you to see them in their full glory almost for the first time. It is almost as though so much of the detail, so much of the history, has been trapped within their small dimensions for so long, like insects preserved in amber.

She looks beautiful inside and out ... love how happy she is in this picture.

She's the type of shop girl any employer would have wanted!

Quite a nice example how a snapshot moment captures a personality and the memory.

I was curious about the sign and looked up "the answers A Lemon". It turns out to be one of those silly catch phrases used to not answer a question, like "Whatever".
