A keen footballer

Sepia Saturday has gone a little football crazy this week and here's a young lad who obviously enjoys his football.
Written on the reverse: Paul Diggens, Dover, age 11/12. Paul's football strip and boots look in good nick but I fear that ball has seen better days.

More old images and football nonsense over at Sepia Saturday.

That ball is giving me bad memories. Usually it had a kind of a lace to keep it together. And when you had to deliver a header and you touched the ball lace side, o boy, that was really painful!
Thanks for reminding me :)

Red hair and freckles? What a honey! I'd love to know what color his uniform was -- looks sharp with the striped socks.

He doesn't seem to mind the condition of the ball, does he?

Aw! What a happy-looking little guy! Is this an orphan photograph or a relative of yours?

I don't really know much about football/soccer, but I know that ball has seen better days!

Jana - it's a orphan photograph.

What a cutie! He looks sharp in his uniform - love those stripes in his shirt and socks.

The ball was still round and he could kick it - that would have been enough and why he is smiling.

Fun photo, must be a well loved ball.

A great photo of a young boy at that best age. Nicely done for the theme.

He looks like a happy wee boy despite his well-used football. There was a Paul Diggens born in the 1/4 to June 1947 in Dover. I wonder... Jo :-)

I guess the ball got a lot of use. Its condition is quite a contrast to the clothes.
