Berger's Peerless Footwear

A rustle through my photograph collection for an image to reflect this week's Sepia Saturday theme of shoes resulted in absolutely nothing. Plenty of men, women and children wearing shoes and boots but none of the images stood out from the crowd. Then I remembered  a box of 1920s magazines under the bed and found this.
Advertisement from Weldon's Illustrated Dressmaker, No. 500, October 1921, published by Weldon's Journals, 30-32 Southampton Street, Strand, London W.C.2.

I love these old ads especially with the prices. what year was this. These would be great additions to ancestors stories.

amazing how the styles kind of still are here today!

Can’t say Berger’s appeal to me - peerless or not :)

Wow! Those shoes are still around, just give it a pointy heel. Crazy. I've also seen fashion photos starting to sport spats again, and a few boots made with them on.

I guess that style must have endured among older women for quite a while. When I was young, I thought of those as "old ladies'" shoes.

Good thing you remembered the archives under the bed. Now I'll have to go back and look at some of my 1920s photos and see if my grandparents are wearing shoes like this.

The shoes on the bottom right remind me of tickle bears boots on his blog today.
Love seeing those old ads.

Oh, the one pair reminds me of the beautiful shoes shown in the opening credits of "Boardwalk Empire." Every time I see those gorgeous shoes I want them.

I wonder if they were available in different colors. I like them, but I can't say they look comfy. Can you imagine what they would have thought of Birkenstocks,Tevas, Keens etc!

The one thing all those shoes have in common is that they all look so uncomfortable. Thank goodness for modern lightweight and flexible footwear,

I would definitely have tried on the 2nd pair from the top on the right.
