It's time for another
Sepia Saturday post and this week's theme is about dolls. This photograph dates from 1911 and was shot on Brighton beach - the buildings in the background are still there today. Postmarked Brighton, September 22, 1911, the message on the reverse reads "
Dear Mother & Min, We are having a very nice holiday, weather's lovely. Hoping you are well - best love from the children and yr affec daughter E."

The girls are ready for the beach, with their little shovel and bucket. Nice hats too. On second thought: why are the girls wearing winter(?) hats on the beach while the weather is lovely?
The dolls - the clothes - the hats -- just a great photo to study.
A charming beach shot. I like the girls’ matching outfits as well as their dolls.
I wonder if the girls were twins. and how much sand they got in the dollies hair at the beach.
Since I am a postcard collector, I especially like that the photo is a postcard and has a message and postmark. That's a nice big hat too.
Looks like a nice September day, I wonder if they are aching to put down the dolls and get to work on the beach with bucket and spade.
Dolls, buckets and spades - they are set for the day. I believe Brighton beach is pebbly - perhaps that's why the are still wearing their buttoned up boots.
A perfect photo pose--the woman with two dolls and each doll holds a doll...they all look happy.
Oh, I bet they did have a wonderful time. They all look so happy.
As soon as I saw the picture I thought of Brighton - there is something about the arches in the background. Wonderful Sepia Saturday image.
What a wonderful image! Proud mother, happy girls with their dolls and I love the buildings in the back. Did you notice the men standing on the top of the buildings? And you could have used this one last week as well!
What a special picture! They do look so happy. It made me smile to read the shorthand in the note.
Happy S.S.,

A terrific photo for this weekend's theme. I wonder if this was another example of a seaside photographer's work.
A splendid image!
