June 1918
Written on the reverse: "Gilroes Hospital, June 1918". Another unknown soldier from the Great War; his cap badge indicates that he served with the Middlesex Regiment. Gilroes Hospital was part of the 5th Northern General Hospital which occupied several buildings in Leicester and North Evington from 1914 to 1919.

Berger's Peerless Footwear
A rustle through my photograph collection for an image to reflect this week's Sepia Saturday theme of shoes resulted in absolutely nothing. Plenty of men, women and children wearing shoes and boots but none of the images stood out from the crowd. Then I remembered a box of 1920s magazines under the bed and found this.

Hubert and Margaret
Photographer: Sneesby, Fore Street, Hertford. Written on the reverse: "Hubert & Margaret Hennessy Brown. 27 Sept 21". According to the Register of Marriages, Vol 3a, Page 2069, Hubert H. Brown married Margaret Hennessy in Hertford, third quarter of 1921. I did a little more digging in the records and Hubert is possibly Hubert Haskell Brown b. Bath, fourth quarter of 1890.

Cowboy
Film is this week's Sepia Saturday theme and the image I've chosen is one of Canadian actor Rod Cameron (1910-1983), star of many western films in the 40s and 50s. I have fond memories of watching countless western double-bills at the cinema as a kid in the 50s, usually with my dad who was a huge fan of the cowboy genre.
On the reverse: Rod Cameron, starring in Republic's "Hell's Outpost". Celebrity Autogrphs Series No. 131. Published by Celebrity Autographs, London W.C.1. Printed in England. More about Rod Cameron's career; details and film posters of his western movies and his IMDb entry.

St. Dunstan's Victory Over Blindness
Fund-raising postcard for St. Dunstan's. On the reverse: The soldiers and sailors blinded in the war are "learning to be blind" at St. Dunstan's in Regent's Park. After their training they go to their own homes or are set up in new ones to carry on the trades they have mastered. Large sums of money are necessary for the after-care of these brave men who gave their sight for us in the war, and a permanent After-Care Branch which will look after them all their lives has been established by the National Institute for the Blind which asks for your practical sympathy on their behalf. Contributions will be gladly accepted by the Treasurer, The National Institute for the Blind, Great Portland Street, W1.

Lancashire lass
This week's Sepia Saturday theme concerns books. Delving into my family collection, photographs of books and readers of books were non-existent (surprising this, given that all my family were voracious readers and I grew up surrounded by books). Turning to my collection of 'unknowns', I came across this lovely photograph which seemed to fit the bill.
On the reverse: Van Esty & Co., 115 Yorkshire St., Rochdale. I'm particularly intrigued by the fob-watch-come-wrist-watch that she's wearing; I haven't seen one of these before. Edited to add this: Edwardian Ladies Watch Strap.

Friends
It's the weekend again and this week's Sepia Saturday has a doggy theme. This is one of the first photographs I bought way back in the late 1960s and it's just as appealing to me today as it was then.
The photographer was G. Norman Taylor, East Oxford Studio, 186 Cowley Road, Oxford and written on the reverse is Yockney, 71 St Marys Road. I suspect this lovely young lady is Constance Jessie Yockney born in Oxford in 1891.
You can find lots more canines and their owners over at Sepia Saturday.
