Yesterday's unknown soldier with (presumably) his wife; photograph taken two months after the first one. Written on the reverse: "August 1918".

June 1918

Written on the reverse: "Gilroes Hospital, June 1918". Another unknown soldier from the Great War; his cap badge indicates that he served with the Middlesex Regiment. Gilroes Hospital was part of the 5th Northern General Hospital which occupied several buildings in Leicester and North Evington from 1914 to 1919.

Berger's Peerless Footwear

A rustle through my photograph collection for an image to reflect this week's Sepia Saturday theme of shoes resulted in absolutely nothing. Plenty of men, women and children wearing shoes and boots but none of the images stood out from the crowd. Then I remembered  a box of 1920s magazines under the bed and found this.

Hubert and Margaret

Photographer: Sneesby, Fore Street, Hertford. Written on the reverse: "Hubert & Margaret Hennessy Brown. 27 Sept 21". According to the Register of Marriages, Vol 3a, Page 2069, Hubert H. Brown married Margaret Hennessy in Hertford, third quarter of 1921. I did a little more digging in the records and Hubert is possibly Hubert Haskell Brown b. Bath, fourth quarter of 1890.

Cowboy

Film is this week's Sepia Saturday theme and the image I've chosen is one of Canadian actor Rod Cameron (1910-1983), star of many western films in the 40s and 50s. I have fond memories of watching countless western double-bills at the cinema as a kid in the 50s, usually with my dad who was a huge fan of the cowboy genre.
