The Dispensary

This week's Sepia Saturday theme is about store fronts. My image is from Private Clark's album and it was taken in Singapore in 1909 while he was serving with the Middlesex Regiment.
The Dispensary, founded in 1879 by Dr. John Hutchinson Robinson, was located on Raffles Place. There's a 1905 photograph of The Dispensary taken from a different angle here and more information here. Further down the street are more stores including a French hairdresser and an outfitter.

Scandinavian style

I haven't anything quite right to fit this week's Sepia Saturday, so here's something completely different.
A vintage postcard advertising the Park Hotel, Liland, Voss, Norway; the photograph is by Normann, Oslo. The image is so carefully (and badly) staged that it makes me laugh. I don't know which is worse - the wide expanse of grey carpet, those brightly-coloured chairs that drag your eyes relentlessly to the bottom left of the image or the frozen-in-action participants. Even the dog looks bored!

Edwardians at the seaside

Sepia Saturday is at the seaside this week. My offering features the usual Edwardian suspects - this time, they're on holiday in Dinard some time between 1908 and 1910.

Out in the snow

Another 'identities unknown' photograph for this week's Sepia Saturday post - a group of WW1 soldiers taking time out in the snow for a smoke. Their cap badges are too indistinct for me to identify accurately - I can see three Prince of Wales feathers and that's about it.

Yachting on -

The usual suspects from my Edwardian photograph album are out on the water again. I'll post the companion photograph tomorrow which will reveal the location.
